Job summary

Research Specialists are responsible for sourcing information, analyzing results, extracting, managing, cleaning, and verifying relevant data. Research responsibilities are dependent on programs, books, and project needs, define the expert knowledge required to address them, and research the relevant industries, companies, and sources to identify, manage and engage data.

The most successful Research Specialists are curious and love to learn about many and diverse topics quickly- you are eager to do whatever it takes to make a project successful. Overall, you need your work to matter and yes, your work directly impacts the organization’s success.

For our purposes, Research can be divided into several areas:

  • Statistical Research: i.e., Can be related to any of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals: Number of Major Incidents, Loss of Life, Dollar damage due to Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires, drought over a 20-year period (2000-2020) in the United States
  • Contact Research: i.e, Influencer Email, Addresses, Phone #, Politicians, Celebrities, Sports Figures, Actors, Musicians
  • Web Scraping: i.e., Sourcing, Scraping & Spreadsheeting all Billionaires Worldwide: Names, Industries, Wealth, Companies, and Social Media or Emails
  • Data Mining: i.e., Extracting Pre-Sets of Information (sources, contacts, and statistics) from News Articles published in Archived Digital Magazines, Newspapers, etc.
  • Data Sourcing: i.e., Researching & Managing Experts or "Green" Products, Goods, Services & Networks that meet Established Criteria
  • Database Management: Create data storage and retrieval systems, troubleshoot database issues, implement database recovery procedures and safety protocols, supervise the activities of database teams

Responsibilities

Works in planning, developing, coordinating, and administering research projects

Conducts both proactive and reactive research using a variety of resources including the Internet, online services/databases, industry-standard business, and biographical directories, periodicals, electronic screening software, and other published materials.

Analyzes data sets using statistical methods and relational databases

Collects, compiles, and analyzes research data

Reviews technical reports and summaries of findings

Prepares reports of research findings, researching data sets, documents data structure, and definitions

Assists in conducting data quality assurance procedures

Requirements

Experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: research and planning work, business or public administration, computer science, statistical analysis, research methodology

Skill in conducting qualitative and quantitative research

Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines

Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making

Ability to plan, organize, and administer research projects; evaluate research data; interpret and report research findings; communicate effectively; and, provide guidance to others
