About this Opportunity

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

  • Helping the farm staff to tend to the donation gardens on the farm as well as the field crops and tunnel crops by weeding, harvesting, composting rows, and planting vegetable crops
  • Assisting with seeding, transplanting, and watering seedlings in our greenhouses for both our plant sale fundraiser and for plants to grow on the farm
  • General assistance on our 8-acre organic farm to help water plants, tend to gardens, assist with our farm market stand on site, minor landscaping help, etc.
  • Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment: Volunteers need to be able and willing to help with plants on our farm and able to understand and follow simple directions from our farm team to complete routine farming tasks.

Who will be served by this assignment? A large portion of our produce is donated to food banks and food pantries in northeastern Ohio, so those individuals receiving our produce donations at a feeding center will be served by this assignment.

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service? We provide director nutrition assistance to hundreds if not thousands of families in our region each year thanks in large part to volunteers helping our farm staff increase our growing capacity and our ability to donate fresh, organic produce to those in need.

What specific skills will the volunteer need? Depending on the task required on a given day, a volunteer may be asked to lift up to 25 pounds, crouch down to tend to crops, and work outside in the heat/cold. There are ways to accommodate for individuals not able to physically perform tasks the same way as our farm team.
