About this Opportunity

Volunteer Medical Director (Part-Time – Outreach-Based)

Seattle Veterinary Outreach – Mobile Health Outreach Program

This is a unique opportunity to make a direct impact in your community by providing low-barrier care to individuals experiencing homelessness. As part of a small, dedicated team, you’ll work alongside veterinarians, social workers, and harm reduction specialists to support people and their pets. The time commitment is small — just a few hours each month — but the impact is big.

Key Responsibilities:

  • AthenaGives EMR Oversight: Serve as administrator and point person for our EMR platform. Document outreach encounters and provide basic EMR guidance to new volunteers.
  • Patient Documentation: Collect and upload consent-to-treat and HIPAA release forms.
  • Volunteer Credentialing & Orientation: Support onboarding for medical volunteers (MDs, DOs, PAs, ARNPs).
  • Malpractice Coverage Liaison: Complete brief annual survey for WA Health Care Access Alliance to maintain volunteer coverage.
  • Public Health Reporting: Oversee nasal naltrexone reporting and reorders (can be reassigned).
  • Outreach Encounter Log: Maintain a basic spreadsheet of monthly medical visits.
  • Coordination with SHO: Confirm volunteer availability and communicate with Seattle Homeless Outreach to align outreach routes.

Optional Add-ons (if interested):

  • Precept Swedish Family Medicine residents (pending eligibility)
  • Assist with kit assembly (wound care, hygiene) when supplies are available
  • Oversee Bombas sock donation logistics or McKesson account transition if needed

Ideal Candidate:

  • Licensed MD or DO (required)
  • Comfortable with outreach-based or street medicine settings
  • Passion for equitable, low-barrier care
  • Strong communicator and collaborator

Time Commitment:

  • 6-8 hours/month (flexible and mostly remote)
  • Participation in 2 outreach per month

If you’re passionate about reducing barriers and improving care access for marginalized communities, we’d love to connect with you.
