Do you care deeply about using food as medicine to heal communities? Are you passionate about researching the potential of herbs and nourishing foods to transform mental health? We need you!

As a volunteer public health researcher with our medicinal foods initiative, you will play a pivotal role uncovering nature's hidden remedies. Together, we are on a mission to understand the science behind traditional herbal wisdom passed down through generations.

You will sift through clinical studies, gather data, and analyze evidence on the stress-relieving superpowers of plants. Your insights will help shape balanced medicinal food recipes and formulas aimed at easing anxiety, improving sleep, boosting brain performance and more!

Advancing the Science of Food as Medicine

In this role, you will contribute to important research unpacking the biomechanics of how foods and herbs impact mental health. Our medicinal foods initiative takes an evidence-based, functional medicine approach to understand the precise biochemical pathways and mechanisms through which plants promote stress relief and resilience.

As a public health researcher volunteer, you will:

  • Conduct systematic reviews of clinical trials and academic studies on the psychopharmacology of herbs and medicinal foods
  • Critically analyze research methodologies, limitations and biases
  • Perform meta-analyses identifying trends in data on herbal compounds effects on stress hormones, neurotransmitters, inflammation, gut-brain connections and other bio-correlates
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary scientists to drive cutting edge investigation into plant medicines
  • Co-author manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication open access knowledge sharing
  • Participate in data transparency, citizen science, and quantified self-tracking initiatives building our real-world understanding of how herbs impact anxiety, sleep, mood and more in daily life
