Position Title: Firefighter Starting Wage: $15.00/hour

Position Summary:

As a Firefighter with the City of Riverview, members will perform all duties of a firefighter under close supervision of senior firefighters and Command Officers. These duties may include, but not limited to:

 Responding to a wide variety of emergencies.  Protecting the life and property of others.  Perform all aspects of fire suppression and overhaul.  Clean, operate, and maintain a variety of equipment.  Perform rescue operations in a variety of conditions.  Work with the public on fire prevention.  Work with other agencies within the city and outside of your jurisdiction.  Drive a city vehicle in both emergency and non-emergency circumstances.  Complete reports.  Attend training classes.  Drive or attend on ambulance calls.  Fulfill all of the requirements of probations as set forth in Policy 400.0 – Probationary Period

Desired Qualities:

Given the varied duties and responsibilities of a firefighter, both physical and mental, the desired qualifications are also varied. The following is a list of some of the desired qualities:

 High school diploma with college preferred.  An interest in and an aptitude for firefighting and emergency medicine.  The ability to physically perform demanding tasks under stressful circumstances.  The ability to read and understand technical materials.  The ability to handle and operate technical equipment.  The ability to work well with others including peers and authority and maintain a courteous relationship with the general public.  Maintain good physical and mental health.
