About this Opportunity

The Western Lakes Fire District (WLFD) provides fire prevention and suppression, rescue, and Critical Care Paramedic-level Emergency Medical Services to eleven municipalities in Waukesha, Dodge, and Jefferson counties. WLFD proudly serves the Town of Ashippun, Town of Concord, Village of Dousman, Village of Lac La Belle, Town of Merton, City of Oconomowoc, Town of Oconomowoc, Town of Ottawa, Town of Sullivan, Village of Sullivan, and the Village of Summit

WLFD serves over 40,000 residents and covers 215 square miles with an annual call volume of over 5,500 calls. WLFD employs fourteen full-time and approximately 190 part-time and paid-on-call personnel out of six stations that are located to provide the best service to the communities.

The Western Lakes Fire District has immediate openings to qualified applicants for the following positions:

-Paid-On-Call/Volunteer Firefighters or EMTs -Part Time Positions for: All EMS Levels (EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, CC Paramedic) -Part Time Positions for dual-certified Firefighters/EMT’s/AEMTs/Paramedics -Internship Positions

*Paid-on-Call Firefighter or Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

  • The Paid-on-Call (POC) Firefighter carries a pager which notifies them of an emergency. The POC firefighter may respond from home or work to one of our six fire stations where they will respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service which include everything from structure fires, to public education events and school visits. POC Firefighters who are also EMT trained are also eligible for scheduled part-time hours.

*Part-time EMT or EMT/Firefighter

  • The WLFD staffs six transport ambulances 24/7/365 from six stations. Additionally the district staffs four paramedic intercept "jump vehicles." Part time EMS members can be any level of EMT from "Basic" through "Critical Care Paramedic." Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel respond to all types of calls in the district. Personnel who are also trained firefighters may also respond to fire and rescue calls while on part time shifts. Part time shift are typically anywhere from 12 to 24 hours long in any one of our six stations.

*Internship -The WLFD is proud to present our live-in internship program. The WLFD pays for 100% of our interns college education which includes the following: *A dedicated bunk room in one of our stations *100% of tuition costs for TWO degrees including Fire Protection Technician and Fire Medic AA *100% of tuition for Paramedic training *100% of associated books and materials *Provided uniforms and PPE
