Volunteer Firefighter

The Rye Fire Department is actively recruiting individuals who wish to serve the City of Rye and surrounding areas in the capacity of firefighters. Eligibility requirements include men or women ages 18 and older, live or work in the City of Rye or a surrounding town, good physical condition, and have the desire to participate in fire and/or emergency activities. The various fire scene roles and responsibilities are determined by certifications obtained through various training programs. No training or fire service experience necessary for membership. The Rye Fire Department will sponsor any/all volunteer training given by Westchester County's Department of Emergency Services and the State of New York's Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

Those persons who do not have the desire to participate in emergency activities, or who do not meet the physical requirements for active membership are also encouraged to join the department. These members contribute in the areas of fundraising, public relations, public education, and administrative assistance.
