Southern Maine Agency on Aging is teaming up with Affinity Care of Maine to recruit Hospice Volunteers! Affinity Care's mission is to provide terminally ill patients and their families with the physical, emotional, and spiritual support they need to live their lives comfortably and with dignity. Join our team and make a meaningful impact in the lives of patients and their loved ones.
As a Hospice Volunteer, you will provide essential support to patients and their families in various settings, including private homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. Your involvement will be invaluable in ensuring that our patients receive the care and comfort they deserve.
Key Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Visit patients in their homes or care facilities, offering companionship and respite to caregivers.
- Perform light homemaker tasks, run errands, and provide respite care as needed.
- Participate in administrative duties, such as delivering materials or assisting with documentation.
- Submit regular reports on time spent with patients and any relevant observations.
- Participate in training programs and ongoing education to ensure you are prepared to meet the needs of our patients.
- Communicate regularly with the Volunteer Coordinator and be part of an interdisciplinary team supporting the patient and family.
Qualities & Skills We're Looking For:
- Mature, compassionate individual who is comfortable around those who are ill or may have cognitive impairments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow privacy protocols.
- Reliable, organized, and able to commit to regular availability.
- Must be a licensed driver with access to a reliable, insured vehicle for home visits (if applicable).
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and provide proof of vaccinations (Covid-19, Influenza, MMR, Varicella).
Commitment & Schedule:
- Flexible Hours: Volunteers typically work mid-morning to early evening, with weekend availability.
- Volunteer Visits: Usually last about an hour, weekly.
- Minimum Commitment: At least one year.
Training & Support:
- Volunteer Training Program: Includes 3-hour in-person classes over a 7-week period to meet the minimum 21 hours of training required by the State of Maine.
- Ongoing Support: Youll receive 24-hour support from our team, along with additional training and volunteer recognition events.
Location:
Volunteers will serve in York and Cumberland counties, including assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and private residences.
