Are you skilled with tools? Are you handy around the house? Do you want to help your older neighbors in an impactful way? Thriving in Place: AARP Age-Friendly Sanford's Home Maintenance & Carpentry Assistance for Older Adults Program is for you!
The Southern Maine Agency on Aging has partnered with Thriving in Place: AARP Age-Friendly Sanfordto recruitdedicated volunteers to assist with essential home maintenance tasks for older adults in the communities of Sanford and Springvale, Maine.
Volunteers will perform light carpentry and maintenance duties for isolated older adults, including:
-Grab bar installation
-Leaky faucet repairs
-Tightening of handrails (inside and outside)
-Lightbulb changing
-AC unit installation and removal
-Sand bucket pick-up and distribution
This is an excellent opportunity to make a direct impact in the lives of older adults while using and developing practical skills!
Volunteer Requirements:
-Basic carpentry skills (use of saw, screwdriver, drill)
-Ability to lift an air conditioner or filled sand bucket
-Comfort with visiting older adults' homes
-A commitment to making a positive impact on the community
Volunteer Commitment:
-Short-term, project-based roles
-Flexible scheduling based on volunteer availability and the needs of the older adult
-Each job will have a short duration
Volunteer Location:
Sanford-Springvale, Maine and surrounding communities
