Food Strong-Program Associate

Our programs seek to reduce the effects of hunger on health and overall quality of life. Food Strong's mission is to cultivate food justice in Northeast Ohio and beyond by building enduring local food systems from the ground up. The outcomes we seek include improving health through providing access to and education around fresh, nutritious foods. We offer our Food Sovereignty School Program which serves K-12 students whom we guide through building onsite food gardens, cooking nutritiously, and learning about nutrition and entrepreneurship. Our Care-A-Van wellness program is a food-focused program that administers resources to those in need while fostering excitement over fresh, local foods. It provides nutrition education, arts and crafts, books, music, health screenings, food demonstrations, resources, and more. Our Vacant Lot Restoration Initiative supports local organizations through the process of receiving and revitalizing vacant lots in their communities. We operate a Learning Garden at East Cleveland's historic Coit Road Farmers Market, and recently received a donation of a 3-acre farm near downtown Cleveland. These sites are for gathering, cultivating fresh foods that we sell in various communities, and educating the community through the process.
