About this Opportunity
The Boys & Girls Clubs in Indian Country (BGCIC) AmeriCorps VISTA Project supports Native communities by building the capacity of local Boys & Girls Clubs to deliver high-quality, sustainable youth programs. Through this initiative, AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates serve at Club sites on Native lands to strengthen summer programming that promotes education, healthy lifestyles, and overall youth development.
Summer Associates play a key role in expanding access to safe, engaging, and culturally relevant opportunities for Native youth during the summer months. Members support academic enrichment activities designed to prevent summer learning loss, including literacy, STEM, and social-emotional learning. They also assist in facilitating daily physical activity and wellness programming that encourages healthy habits and positive decision-making.
In addition to direct program support, Summer Associates contribute to capacity-building efforts that enhance long-term impact. This includes supporting program planning, organizing activities, tracking participation, and helping improve systems that strengthen program delivery beyond the summer term. Many sites also engage Summer Associates in supporting food security efforts, such as summer meal programs and nutrition education.
Grounded in community needs and cultural relevance, this program helps Clubs meet youth where they are providing consistent, supportive environments that foster academic success, physical and emotional well-being, and strong community connections. By investing in both immediate programming and sustainable systems, the BGCIC AmeriCorps VISTA Project creates lasting impact for Native youth, families, and communities.
