About this Opportunity
Tucson Village Farm (TVF) is a dynamic seed-to-table program with a mission to reconnect young people to the roots of a healthy food system. It empowers them with the knowledge and skills to grow, prepare, and savor fresh, nourishing food, while also guiding them to make informed, health-conscious choices. As a proud initiative of the Pima County Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona, TVF serves as both a thriving urban farm and a hub for healthy living. Here, young people are mentored in life and leadership skills through hands-on agriculture, culinary education, outdoor adventure, and active community engagement. With a vision to nurture wellness, resilience, sustainability, and positive growth, TVF prepares the next generation to thrive as engaged, contributing members of their communities.
As an educator, you'll be at the heart of the summer programs, supporting every aspect¿from recruiting campers to assisting with the training of counselors-in-training, planning hands-on activities, prepping for camp days, ensuring a clean environment after camp, and evaluating the impact of the experience. The summer camps themselves are diverse, offering everything from immersive farm day camps to exciting outdoor adventure camps and culinary workshops. AmeriCorps members in this role can expect to jump into a variety of tasks, making it the perfect fit for someone who thrives in the warm summer Tucson sun, loves being outdoors, and is eager to contribute to enriching summer programming.
You'll receive invaluable training in arid land food production, youth development (including the THRIVE Theory of youth development), STEM activities, and artistic projects like ceramics, blacksmithing, and screen printing. Additionally, you'll gain hands-on experience in volunteer management, integrated pest management, orchard care, harvesting techniques, planting strategies, seasonality, and so much more!
