About this Opportunity
Community mediation provides an opportunity for people in conflict to have difficult conversations with the help of non-judgmental mediators. Mediation allows everyone involved to talk about their experiences, be heard by each other, and establish a plan on how to move forward productively.
The New Orleans Community-Police Mediation Program (CPMP) aims to improve relationships and build understanding between the community and the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). The CPMP is a program of the Office of the Independent Police Monitor, an independent, civilian police oversight agency whose mission is to improve police service to the community and create transparency and accountability of the NOPD. The mediation program provides community members and police officers the unique opportunity to have a face-to-face conversation to address conflict in their interactions with each other, be heard and understood, hear each other¿s perspectives, and come to their own agreements about moving forward. The program offers opportunity for community members to directly address officer misconduct and create changes in our policing and public safety systems. The AmeriCorps member must be available to travel to Baltimore, MD for training August 11-28th. Travel and housing will be covered. The remainder of the service term will take place in New Orleans.
This program is available to all without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability (mental or physical), political affiliation, marital or parental status, pregnancy, genetic information (including family medical history), or military service.
