About this Opportunity

Make a difference by helping BBB serve the Denver/Boulder low income communities. We envision an ethical marketplace where buyers and sellers can trust each other, and we strive to create one by creating a community of businesses committed to self-regulation and honesty in advertising, promoting education and awareness surrounding BBB Code of Advertising and federal/local regulations related to advertising practices, encouraging and supporting best advertising practices, recognizing marketplace role models, and identifying and addressing substandard marketplace behavior. This will greatly help low-income consumers not to fall further into poverty by falling prey to false-advertising gimmicks. Low-income consumers are more likely to be adversely affected by shady advertising. Focus on economically disadvantaged youth within the schools we serve, and most organizations have an 80% or higher free and reduced lunch student population

The AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate will research this phenomenon and help to develop a plan for the BBB to promote fairness and will measure the success for assisting low-income Colorado consumers through education and accountability for businesses. The SA will utilize the BBB Code of Advertising and FTC advertising guidelines to review local businesses website, radio, and media and print advertising in an effort to establish a self-policing attitude from businesses and promote market place trust.
