About
NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center is a comprehensive health and human services agency located in the heart of North Minneapolis. NorthPoint is comprised of two organizations: a community services nonprofit with a broad array of social and human services (NorthPoint Inc.); and a full service community health center (NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center) that includes medical, dental and behavioral health clinics. NorthPoint seeks to reduce health disparities, improve health outcomes, and enhance the overall quality of life for all residents of North Minneapolis by providing high quality medical, dental and behavioral health care, along with integrated social services such as its food shelf, housing resources and domestic violence services -- with respect, dignity and sensitivity to a culturally rich and ethnically diverse community.

Special Events for 2022 (dates TBD)
*Give a Kid a Smile:
Volunteers greet dental patients and parents, escort and play with children for lego building, coloring, and book reading activities, and collect evaluations and hand out gift bags. Appointments are on Friday and Saturday in February. Volunteer shifts are 8:00am-12:00pm and 12:00pm-4:00pm on Friday, and 8:00am-1:00pm on Saturday. Two volunteers are needed per shift.
Guard Your Grin:
Oral Cancer Prevention Screening is provided for adults at our Dental Clinic on Tuesday and Wednesday in April. Eight volunteers assist with greeting patients, collecting evaluations and distributing thank-you gifts. Shifts are 8am-12pm and 12pm-4pm both days; two volunteers are needed for each shift.
May is Mental Health Month
On eight Tuesdays and Thursdays in May, volunteers will be paired with employees to staff a table in our lobbies to promote NorthPoints Behavioral Health Services and share great information about how to deal with every day stress. Shifts are 8:30-11:30am, 11am-2pm and 1:30-4:30pm.
*Produce Distribution/Outdoor Markets:
May through September, every other Friday 7:30am-12:30pm, volunteers assist our staff distributing free produce and more to our community members. It is a great way to spend a morning outdoors serving families with good food and our community partners promote their programs and services as well. Twenty-five volunteers are needed each morning. The 2022 dates are TBD.
*National Night Out:
Community members will come together on Tuesday in August, 4:00pm-7:00pm to learn about health and safety and get to know their neighbors. Volunteers encourage children and adults to participate in physical activities and serve some nutritious food.
National Health Center Week:
NorthPoint thanks our patients, clients, volunteers and community members throughout this week in August, Monday through Friday, with gift bags and refreshments in our lobbies. Volunteers help staff our tables and promote these great events with tours of our health and wellness center. More details are forthcoming.
*Fit4Fun:
Our 7th Annual Fit4Fun event will be on Saturday in September. We will be partnering with the City of Minneapolis Open Streets on Broadway again this year. This event will include group aerobics, music, dancing, prizes, healthy food options, children's activities, health and wellness information and most importantly, fun! We welcome you to be a volunteer 10:30am-5:00pm for a2-3 hour shift and then be a participant for the rest of the event and bring your family and friends!
*See, Test & Treat - Womens Cancer Prevention Education and Screenings:
In September we invite women and their families to an African American Womens Cancer Forum on Thursday, 4-7pm, a Hmong Tea on Thursday, 4-7pm and a Latina Festival on Friday, 4-7pm to learn about cancer prevention. Then the first week of October 7:30am-4:00pm, we provide a day of screening for women 21 years old and older. Volunteer shifts in October are 7:30am-12:00pm and 11:30am-4:00pm. Women meet health care providers, receive free screenings, sign up for health insurance if they need it, and learn how to be healthy. Ten volunteers are needed for each September date and twenty-five volunteers are needed for each October date to help escort the ladies through the clinic stations, participate in the dance and exercise, and have some great meals.
School Health Screenings:
Volunteers assist staff in doing health screenings for children in our North Minneapolis community in September, October and November. Screenings include hearing, vision, height and weight. Parents receive results and instructions about next steps if they are needed. Ten volunteers are needed each day for these 5 weeks/20 days of screenings.

*Toys for Tots:
As a Twin Cities distribution site for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots, we help parents/guardians sign up for free toys for their children in November and then they return for two days in December to pick out toys for their children. Volunteers help with distribution Friday and Saturday and help make happy holidays for our community.
*Youth 14 and 15 years old can volunteer when chaperoned by an adult. Youth 16 and 17 years old can volunteer with prior parent/guardian written approval (form provided).
