About

Spokane Audubon Society (SAS) is a grassroots environmental organization of members throughout northeast Washington. It is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit that serves as a local chapter of the National Audubon Society. Our mission -- advocating for birds and their habitats in the Inland Northwest and connecting people with nature -- is achieved through monthly meetings (September - May) featuring bird and other wildlife issue presentations, year-round field trips, and education and outreach events for both children and adults, coordinating with wildlife rehabilitators to assist our community with found injured or orphaned birds, financial contributions to local habitat acquisition, conservation and management, support for legislation and other efforts to protect birds and other wildlife, and more.

Mission Statement

The Spokane Audubon Society Advocates For Birds And Their Habitats In The Inland Northwest And Connects People With Nature. Our goal is to foster a love and appreciation for the outdoors and wildlife for anyone who is interested.

Other goals include creating a safe environment for resident and migratory birds by providing education on cats, window strikes, safe bird feeding practices, habitat preservation, and habitat restoration.

We have monthly education meetings (Sept - May), lead field trips, and run an annual photography contest. We also participate in public outreach at local events and school science nights.

Current projects include our Save a Bird team, who respond to messages from concerned citizens about injured birds. If indicated, birds are transported to local veterinarians or rehabbers. We also have an American kestrel nest box construction and monitoring program to help bolster the kestrel population.
