About this Opportunity
Do you love wildlife? Are you interested in helping save animals? Our Save a Bird team is looking for volunteers to take calls from concerned citizens about injured birds. Volunteers will communicate with the public, and may assist with capturing and/or transporting injured birds.
Purpose of the Team
- Assist Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's Spokane Office by responding to calls from the public who report sick, injured, or orphaned wild birds.
- Provide advice to the reporting party on a workable solution for the bird. On occasion, transport a bird in need of care to a local cooperating veterinarian or to WSUs Wildlife Ward in Pullman for rehabilitation or euthanasia.
- Promote public knowledge, appreciation, and conservation of birds.
We do NOT attempt to save every bird. Our guiding principle is to educate first and make ethical decisions about when and how to intervene in the lives of birds.
Training and assistance is available! Mileage reimbursement for transporting birds is available.
