Park Greeter

Reports to National Park Service Staff 

Our Opportunity: Park Greeter Volunteers support Gateway Arch National Park by helping create a hospitable, informative, and visitor-centered environment. The primary tasks of a Park Greeter are to be the first interaction visitors have at the Park and help build a visitor’s relationship to the Park. This may include welcoming guests to the Park and directing them to various locations around the area, answer questions from the public or direct them to someone who can answer, be an ambassador for the greater St. Louis region, and other tasks as assigned.  

How does this position make an impact? 

The GANP Greeter makes a positive impact on park visitors through daily interactions.  

Roles and Responsibilities: 18 or older (younger applicants with parental/guardian approval may be considered). As representatives of The National Park Service and Gateway Arch Park Foundation, volunteers must adhere to the policies, procedures, and code of conduct as outlined in the volunteer handbook provided prior to or during training. 

Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills: 

• Excellent communication skills.
• A desire to engage the public and learn more about the National Park Service.
• Enthusiasm, friendliness, and a positive attitude.
• Respect for confidentiality of the Gateway Arch National Park’s volunteers, partners, members, and donors.
• Willingness to take initiative, and voice ideas. 

Physical Requirements: 

• Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to occasionally lift and move up to twenty (20) pounds. 

Commitment: Duration of volunteer term is suggested 3-6 months (may be extended if needed). Days and times for volunteer shifts will be decided between the volunteer and supervisor. 

Location: Gateway Arch National Park Greeter stations are located at in the Old Courthouse and Gateway Arch Visitor Center.  

Training and Supervision: 

Volunteers must attend orientation. Orientation is held on a quarterly basis, on a Saturday morning from 10am-noon.  

Training will be conducted by volunteer supervisors or seasoned volunteers on the first day of each volunteer’s shift and will vary depending on the position, supervisor, and personal learning styles.
