About this Opportunity
St. Vincent's Hospital Westchester is seeking volunteers for its newly designated 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline of Westchester County. This program is located at St. Vincent’s Hospital's Harrison Campus and is supervised by the Crisis Prevention and Response Team (CPRT).
Volunteers who are available on weekends and evenings are especially needed!
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older, High School diploma or GED required
- Ability to commit to a minimum of at least one 3-hour shift per week (maximum 5-hour shift)
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Crisis Prevention and Response Team
- Professional experience/background in the mental health field preferred but not required
- Personal and/or lived experience welcome
- Good listening skills, ability to be empathic, patient, non-judgmental required
- Bilingual/Spanish-speaking candidates welcome
- Ability to work in a potentially high-stress and fast-paced environment
- Strong computer skills required
- Ability to multi-task and adequately manage calls while simultaneously documenting
Responsibilities:
- Answer calls received through National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
- Provide crisis intervention, support, and information and/or referrals
- Adhere to assigned work schedule; be punctual
- Attend mandatory supervision and all required trainings as scheduled
- Adhere to all policies and procedures
Training:
- Intensive 40-hour suicide prevention training
- Ongoing supervision from Crisis Prevention Response Team clinicians
- Ongoing in-service training
