About this Opportunity
Opportunity Overview:
Once cultivated by Native Americans and European settlers, the 162-acre FARM Institute at Katama Farm is a working farm devoted to sustainable agriculture and farm education. In 2005, the FARM Institute, an island nonprofit devoted to connecting children to agriculture, made it their headquarters and restored the buildings and grounds. The Trustees manage the educational programming at the farm with partner Slough Farm while Morning Glory Farm and Grey Barn hold the agricultural lease. The Trustees and Slough Farm maintain a small flerd (cows, sheep, goats) as well as pigs and poultry for educational purposes on their 23 acre parcel.
Do you love being outdoors, meeting other like-minded folks? Would you like to provide tours or help staff with an educational program? The Trustees seeks volunteers to assist at various public events and during other stewardship-type events. This is a hands-on opportunity that will allow volunteers to connect more deeply with the community while also developing more skills around event planning and hosting. Successful volunteers are friendly, enthusiastic, willing to learn on the job, reliable, and good representatives of The Trustees.
Please Note: A background check may be required for this role.
Reports to: Engagement Manager
Covid-19 Volunteer Safety:
The health and safety of Trustees’ volunteers, staff and visitors is our top priority.
Variable, depending on volunteer availability. Ideal candidates will volunteer at two events (2-4 hours/event) per month, though more in busy season (summer and fall) would be appreciated. Tours happen Monday-Friday in the summer months at 10am.
