About this Opportunity
Volunteer with The Friends of Rancho San Pedro at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum to increase community awareness regarding the Rancho era's impact on early Californian history.
Why: Join our docent team and become storytellers on the history of the Dominguez family, Homestead adobe, and the Rancho San Pedro. Educate students and the public on the impact of the Rancho era in California history and the Dominguez family who played a role in the development of Los Angeles.
Who: The Friends of Rancho San Pedro is an organization designed to foster community awareness of early California history, culture, and heritage and the Dominguez family through Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum programs and educational resources.
What to Expect:- New volunteer docents undergo an in-person training session and a "how-to" orientation.
- Docents read historical background documents for a final check-out tour before being approved.
- Docents share the story of Rancho San Pedro, the Dominguez family, and the 1910 International Aviation Meet, focusing on Southern California development.
- Tours are offered on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, as well as the first Thursday and Friday of each month at 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm. School tours are available Tuesday-Friday to lead but are optional.
- Volunteers receive a 10% discount at the museum gift shop, an invitation to a yearly Recognition Luncheon in December, and quarterly group outings to local historic sites or museums (admission and lunch covered by the museum).
- Docents commit to at least one tour day per month and attend monthly docent meetings on the 1st Saturday of the month.
- Docents must be interested and passionate in early California history and able to work with members of the public.
- Be able to stand & walk for an hour to conduct tour.
