Job Title: PARA Fall Intern
Status: Part-Time (15–20 Hours/Week)
Department: Public Affairs Research and Advocacy (PARA) – Reports directly to Aseel Elborno
Location: Hybrid (Washington, DC & Alexandria, VA)
Dates: September 22 – December 12
Compensation: $1,000 Stipend
Overview:
Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA) is seeking a highly motivated intern to support the Public Affairs Research and Advocacy (PARA) Department. This is a hybrid position with required in-person participation for select activities in Washington, DC and Alexandria, VA. The intern will work collaboratively with the PARA team to advance IRUSA’s mission through grassroots advocacy, research, and campaign engagement.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist in amplifying grassroots advocacy campaigns and initiatives

Support implementation of the National Letter Writing Contest

Conduct research and contribute to PARA’s digital presence through content creation, stakeholder engagement, and analytical writing

Aid in coordinating operations for ongoing PARA projects and events

Attend internal and external meetings; draft internal memos and blog posts for IRUSA platforms

Provide event support for “Participate for Impact,” UNGA activities, and other fall events

Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Self-motivated and able to work independently with attention to detail
Learning Outcomes:
The intern will gain hands-on experience in grassroots advocacy, policy research, and event coordination. Additionally, they will develop insight into federal NGO advocacy, government affairs, coalition building, and media relations. Exposure to IRUSA’s cross-functional departments, including Marketing, Legal, and Programs, will also be an integral part of the internship experience.
