PUBLIC AFFAIRS RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY INTERN
Job Title: PARA Summer Intern
Status: 25–30 hours/week

Location: Hybrid (Washington, DC & Alexandria, VA)
Compensation: $1,000 Stipend

Position Overview:
Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA) is seeking a dedicated and motivated student to join our Public Affairs, Research, and Advocacy (PARA) team as a Summer Intern. This is a hybrid position with a combination of remote work and in-person activities in Washington, DC and Alexandria, VA. The intern will support PARA initiatives to further the mission of IRUSA through meaningful research, advocacy, and public engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with the production of the What a Relief podcast

• Write compelling blog posts highlighting PARA activities

• Contribute to research projects, including content development, digital engagement, and stakeholder outreach

• Support coordination and operations for PARA-related tasks and initiatives

• Attend internal and external meetings and draft internal memos

• Assist with event coordination, including the summer intern event in DC

• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Competencies:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

• Self-motivated and detail-oriented

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Learning Outcomes:
The intern will gain valuable experience in:

• Grassroots advocacy and research

• NGO federal advocacy and government affairs

• Coalition building and media relations

• Event coordination and internal communications

• Gaining exposure to other departments, including Marketing and Programs
