Brief Organizational Description:
Chimborazo Playground Community Garden is a vibrant community space in Church Hill, adjacent to Chimborazo Park. Established through collaborative neighborhood efforts, the garden offers over 30 raised beds for local families to cultivate food and flowers, fostering community engagement and promoting environmental stewardship. 

Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
We invite you to participate in our upcoming Garden Work Day at Chimborazo Playground Community Garden. This event is essential for maintaining and enhancing the garden's beauty and productivity. Your volunteer efforts will support our mission to provide a welcoming space for community members to grow their own produce and connect with nature.​

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Weeding, watering, and mulching around the garden

  • Assisting with composting efforts and general garden upkeep​

  • Participating in small projects such as repairing raised beds and maintaining pathways​

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:

  • No prior gardening experience is necessary—enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are most important​

  • Volunteers under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian​

  • Tasks may involve moderate physical activity, including lifting up to 20 lbs and extended periods of standing or kneeling​

  • All necessary tools and training will be provided on-site​

Time Commitment:

  • Volunteers are encouraged to participate for the entire duration of the workday.

Other Information:

  • Volunteer Hours Verification: Attendance will be recorded on-site and logged into the CFENGAGE system for verification​

  • Orientation: A brief orientation session will commence at the start of the work day to outline tasks and safety protocols​

  • Attire: Please wear weather-appropriate clothing that you don't mind getting dirty, along with closed-toe shoes​

  • What to Bring: A refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and personal gardening gloves if available​

  • Parking: Limited street parking is available near the garden; carpooling or using public transportation is recommended​
