About this Opportunity

Join Maymont for the first event of 2026, Dominion Energy Family Easter at Maymont on April 4th! 100 acres of family fun, 100 years in the making!

Maymont, located in the heart of Richmond, Virginia, is a well-preserved 100 acres where all are welcome to connect with history, nature, wildlife and each other. Built as a Gilded Age estate overlooking the James River, Maymont opened to the public in 1926 and today offers free admission to explore its miles of walking paths through rolling hills, beautiful landscaped gardens, a petting farm and the Virginia Wildlife Trail with habitats for rescued native animals. Since 1975, the nonprofit Maymont Foundation has been entrusted to care for this unique place, galvanizing community support around its mission to delight, educate and inspire all who visit.

Maymont reaches a milestone in 2026: 100 years as a treasured public space. It’s woven into the lives of generations of Richmonders, part of what makes the community unique. Maymont is our common ground to relax, explore, meet animals, admire the seasons, step into history, bring a date, enjoy a concert, take photos, and wow out-of-town visitors. Each day, in so many ways, Maymont continues to delight, educate and inspire all who visit.

Volunteers are needed to support Maymont's largest single-day volunteer event, Dominion Energy Family Easter! Bring the whole family for an Easter extravaganza and all that spring has to offer on Saturday April 4th. Enjoy games, activities and crafts, as well as live entertainment with jugglers and adorable animals, and of course, appearances by the Easter Bunny.

Volunteer support is needed (but not limited to)- Check In- be one of the first friendly faces guests see, Easter Games- explain the rules, reset the games, and of course hand out eggs, Education Station- lead guests through engaging games and crafts, Crafts and Bonnet Making- help distribute supplies to guests and get creative, Dance Zone- encourage guests to dance while you monitor the space, Pollinator Games- located in the pollinator garden, explain the rules and hand out eggs, Mansion Mini Tours- greet guests and help guide them through the newly renovated Dooley mansion, Inflatable Sports Games- monitor the games and help give out prizeand Easter Bunny Meet and Greet- the most popular bunny in town needs some helpers to manage the line and guide guests through ! No matter if you are ready to jump in and help or take a subtler approach by being the Easter Bunny, there is a volunteer spot for you! Volunteers can choose between two shifts (or signup for both!)- 8:15a-12p or 11:30a-3:30p . All volunteers will receive one voucher at the end of their shift to come back any future Maymont special event- we're talking to you Herbs Galore fanatics!

The week before the event, you will receive event details emailed to you. All three locations have onsite parking. Carpooling and ride share are also strongly encouraged. Please make sure all parties attending have registered.

If you can no longer volunteer please mark yourself as 'declined' in your registration.

For questions, please email [email protected]

Volunteer Check-in is at 1700 Hampton Street. Look for a single gate at the top of the parking lot, double gates are event check-in. There you will sign in next to your name, be given a volunteer lanyard, and be assigned to a location, craft, or game and given directions on how to get there. All three locations (Maymont Farm, Robins Nature Center, and Hampton Street Entrance) have onsite parking. Carpooling and ride share are also strongly encouraged.

What to Bring/Wear: a refillable water bottle and comfortable waterproof shoes are highly recommended. A water foundation is located right near the gazebo at the Hampton Street entrance and inside the Robins Nature Center. Please remember that most volunteer positions require you to be on your feet and outside. Maymont events are rain or shine so prepare for all weather conditions. Dress for your individual comfort and style. A positive can-do attitude and a warm smile are also highly recommended!

During your shift: have fun! Engage with guests, show them why you love volunteering with Maymont. It is okay not to know every question to everything on 100 acres full of history, gardens, and animals. A great response to unknown questions is “ that is a great question, I am volunteering tonight, I know Maymont’s information email is [email protected] if you want to reach out and ask otherwise I’ll ask a staff member next time I see someone so I know for the future.”

Checkout: once your shift has ended, please return your lanyard to the volunteer captain to receive your voucher. If you need anything signed, a Captain or Manager can sign off.  If you are emailing anything to be signed, please allow 5-7 business days to get it back to you before it is due.

We know life happens and if you need to leave for any reason, please alert any staff on your way out by giving them your name and where you were posted. Otherwise, we expect to see you at your assigned position for your entire shift.

We will not give out vouchers to volunteers who abandon their positions.

Thanks again for volunteering! We're excited for a fun day of giving back and helping keep Maymont free for everyone through events like Easter that support the park year-round.
