About this Opportunity
Maymont, located in the heart of Richmond, Virginia, is 100 well-preserved acres where all are welcome to connect with history, nature, wildlife and each other. Built as a Gilded Age estate overlooking the James River, Maymont opened to the public in 1926 and today offers free admission to explore its miles of walking paths through rolling hills, beautiful, landscaped gardens, a petting farm and the Virginia Wildlife Trail with habitats for rescued native animals. Since 1975, the nonprofit Maymont Foundation has been entrusted to care for this unique place, galvanizing community support around its mission to delight, educate and inspire all who visit.
Maymont reaches a milestone in 2026: 100 years as a treasured public space. It’s woven into the lives of generations of Richmonders, part of what makes the community unique. Maymont is our common ground to relax, explore, meet animals, admire the seasons, step into history, bring a date, enjoy a concert, take photos, and wow out-of-town visitors. Each day, in so many ways, Maymont continues to delight, educate and inspire all who visit.
We've been working on major enhancements to some of our paths and wildlife habitats, including adding two new habitats for porcupines and a coyote. As a result, the Virginia Wildlife Trail is ready to reopen on May 2nd!
Volunteer support is needed throughout the wetlands, The Robins Nature Center, Maymont Farm, and Virginia Wildlife Trail supporting education stations, crafts, and more!
