Event details:

Join The James River Park System on Fridays as we remove invasive plants from Ancarrow's Landing and the Trail of Enslaved Africans. We will be focusing on removing English Ivy, Winter Creeper, Privet, Amur Honeysuckle, and other invasive plants. Be a part of this initiative to help restore The James River Park's riparian buffer and tree canopy! Volunteers will be using small hand tools such as loppers and hand saws. Tools and gloves will be provided by JRPS, but please feel free to bring your favorite tool from home and a pair of gloves that you already own. Please bring water and a snack, wear closed toe shoes and dress comfortably as we will be outside for the duration of the project. Regardless of the weather, we strongly recommend wearing long sleeves and long pants to protect yourself from biting and stinging insects and plants such as briars and poison ivy. In the event of storms or heavy rain, this event will be canceled and you will be notified.

Directions and site details:

from Maury St, pass under an overpass and over a second set of train tracks. The road will turn and become Brander St. Continue all the way down Brander St. The waste water treatment plant will be on your right and the park on your left. The entrance is at the end of the road. Instead of going straight into the treatment plant, the road turns left over a set of train tracks and into the park. Park in designated car parking (NOT truck and trailer parking) and meet at the vehicle with the city logo.

There is usually a porta potty on site.
