About this Opportunity
NAMI Indiana seeks volunteers to support families experiencing mental health crises through our program, NAMI in the Lobby.
NAMI in the Lobby is a peer-run service program offered at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis and Centerstone in Columbus, where trained volunteers are available to provide a listening ear and mental health resources. Designed to assist families during mental health crises, the program offers immediate support and guidance when it's needed most. Volunteers with lived experience offer empathetic listening, share valuable insights, and help connect families with crucial mental health services. Through this support, we aim to foster hope and empower families as they navigate their mental health journeys.
This program is ideal for individuals with lived experience, particularly those who have supported a loved one through mental health challenges—especially parents of children or young adults.
If you’re passionate about helping families in crisis and want to make a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply by filling out the Google Form Application or emailing the Program Manager (Miranda Dehaai) at [email protected].
Volunteers must complete the application and screening process, take 8 hours total of training, and fulfill a background check.
