Sails Angels is all about small boats on the James River.
At any given time, during the warmer weather, we have half a dozen safely rigged aluminum canoes at the waters edge, ready for outings on the James.
Our outings (both half day and full day) consist of as few as 2 and at most 12 participants.
Our boats can be sailed, paddled, rowed, towed or run on solar charged battery with trolling motor. It all depends on the unique needs of the participants, the tides, and the weather. Our participants include the handicapped, the disadvantaged, at risk youth, and any one who would benefit from a day on the river.
Everyone is welcome, and there is never a charge!
In 2022 we hosted over 500 outing participants from the Sails Angels launch way, which is located on a sheltered lagoon 15 miles from downtown Richmond.
We need volunteers to prepare for and join us on outings, help clean and stow the gear after the outings, help maintain the launch way and keep the boats ready for action and safe from severe weather.
