Volunteer as a Literacy Support Volunteer at Eberwhite Elementary!
What you Will Be Doing:
Eberwhite Elementary is looking for volunteers to support a small group of 3rd-grade students and ELL (English Language Learners) students, 3X a week for 20 minutes (for cycles of 6-8 weeks) with literacy needs.
Specific tasks include meeting with a group of three to four students following a three step plan for developing literacy skills. Groups will work on decoding irregular words, reading phonics patterns in words, while building reading fluency.
Volunteers will receive training and supervision from the Building Literacy Coach (BLC) at Eberwhite.
Requirements:You must be a certified teacher.You must be able to commit to volunteering at least 3 days a week for 20 minutes each day for at least 6 weeks.
Times Needed: 2-2:30pm for three consistent days a week
Looking for volunteers who
- Have a literacy background (such as a retired teacher or other individual with literacy experience).
- Have experience providing academic support for K-12 students.
- Have a teaching certification.
Other things to know about this role: Volunteers will enjoy working with a small group of third grade students who would benefit from a little extra support in foundational literacy skills. Training and materials are provided.
