About this Opportunity
Tutor children from kindergarten through fifth grade. Children are from low-income immigrant families; mostly Guatemalan. We ask that you tutor three or four children for 30 minutes each for a total of an hour and a half to two hours between 3 and 5:45 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tutoring is conducted in an after-school setting at The Escuelita Maya which is operated by the Guatemalan Maya Center and is located at Highland Elementary School in Lake Worth, FL near the 10th Ave exit of I-95.
Most of the children were born in the U.S. and speak English but would benefit from an English-speaking adult tutor. There are many students who fall behind in reading and math due to subtle language and culture issues that one-on-one tutoring can help overcome.
This is a tutoring opportunity with grateful students and parents where volunteer tutors can observe their students mature and improve academically day by day and year by year.
