About this Opportunity
Needed: Community members who are called to make a difference. How Can You Help? Bring Hope to someone in their end-of-life journey by visiting them in their home, nursing home setting or remote volunteering:
- Music - Sing or play an instrument.
- Food - Light meal prep, bake cookies, online grocery order pick up and delivery.
- Reading - Read a book aloud for visually impaired, play audio books, start a book club and discuss your selected book with multiple patients or individuals.
- Games - Dominoes, Scrabble, puzzles, attend activities at a local nursing home where a patient resides.
- Companionship - Visit patients residing in your location area in their home which could be a nursing facility, family member's home or the patient's home, make weekly phone calls (remotely) to patients or caregivers to help increase socialization.
- Reminiscing - Life review and legacy provide distractions from struggles related to incurable disease and pain; art such as painting on small rocks, color associated to memories, creation of a Life Book for family, walks outside or sitting on the porch listening to the birds
- Photography - Family portraits, generational photography, assist patient in creating a digital Life Book with photos and sentiments
- Caregiver Relief - Sitting (non-medical) with a patient while their caregiver gets a much needed break. It could be that the caregiver just needs to take a nap in another room of the house to refresh and stay strong.
- Reiki Energy Art - Reiki healing sessions from a certified, Master Reiki practitioner
- Massage Therapy - Licensed Massage therapist can assist patient with physical and emotional symptoms of pain and discomfort
- Honoring Veterans - Assist and or lead veteran honoring and pinning celebrations
- Last Wishes - Assisting in coordinating a last wish event for a patient under the direction of the volunteer coordinator.
Compassus Hospice Foundation allows grant requests to assist patients in experiencing a last wish event.
- Administrative - Assist in uploading forms into the patient chart, making legal and grief packs for staff to pass out to patients. (must live near Langley Oklahoma).
- Bereavement - Assist our bereavement coordinator in making care calls to the family of our patients who have passed, assist in mailing of bereavement materials to family members, assist in grief care groups, assist in annual remembrance ceremonies. Experience in processing grief, social work, pastor or chaplain, licensed counselor would be helpful for this role.
- Group Volunteering - We have patients residing in several long term care facilities and we have been asked if we have volunteers who might like to perform a musical show, special art class, gardening project, etc.
If you know of a group that would like to volunteer, we would be thrilled. Each group member would be required to complete Compassus vetting requirements and onboarding training.
