Pearlman Volunteer Center administers the volunteer recruitment, screening and interviewing, orientation, training and education, placement and referral, retention, and recognition processes for Lighthouse Guild.
Our current corps of volunteers consists of 600 volunteers who contribute to the success of the organization and carry on the legacy of service of the organization’s founders.

Volunteer Opportunity: This position is ideal for a candidate interested in providing program support in a very busy Assistive Technology Center. The intern/volunteer will help by handling incoming calls and providing callers with information. The candidate will also be responsible for administrative projects including updating files and databases, doing inventory for the tech center and dispensary conducting research. The responsibilities will also include work related to technologies and devices used by people who are blind or visually impaired, which include mainstream as well as assistive technologies both in real-world applications and in development.
Principal duties and responsibilities: 1.Answer department phones. 2.Triage the caller’s needs and provide answers. 3.Escalate the calls to the appropriate party when necessary. 4.Handle inventory for the optical dispensary and Technology Center. 5.Provide direct administrative support to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). 6.Coordinate and/or schedule interviews and meetings for the CTO. 7.Provide administrative support for Technology Center events. 8.Work on special projects required to increase the reach and impact of the Department.
Qualifications: 1.Intermediate knowledge of Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel required. 2.Strong written and oral communication skills, including clear diction are required. 3.The ability to lead, take and follow instruction, take initiative, and apply critical thinking skills is required. 4.Strong customer service orientation preferred. 5.Understands and demonstrates time management skills and judgement with prioritizing task. 6.The ability to exhibit excellence in the execution of your responsibilities is required. 7.Flexible attitude. Able to handle moments of stress.
Details of the Opportunity: The ideal candidate is available during business hours 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. We are flexible with establishing your schedule during these hours and request your presence in the office at least 4 hours per day. Please submit a resume to [email protected].
