About this Opportunity
Volunteer Role: Academic Tutor (ElementaryHigh School)
Overview:
As a volunteer Academic Tutor, youll support students in grades K12 by helping them strengthen their academic skills, build confidence, and stay on track with their learning goals. Whether its reading with a 2nd grader, supporting a middle schooler with math, or helping a high school student with essay writing or test prepyoull offer encouragement and individualized educational support where its needed most.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in core subjects (reading, writing, math, science, etc.)
- Tailor your approach to fit each students age, grade level, and learning style
- Reinforce strong study habits, organizational skills, and academic confidence
- Collaborate with staff and communicate with caregivers as appropriate
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment
Time Commitment:
- Approximately 2 hours per week (typically once a week)
- A full school-year commitment is preferred to support continuity and relationship-building
Qualifications:
- Comfort and confidence in core academic subjects across K12 levels
- Clear communication skills, patience, and a strengths-based mindset
- Prior tutoring or youth engagement experience is helpful but not required
- Willingness to complete a background check (provided at no cost to you)
Support Provided:
- Orientation and training prior to tutoring placement
- Access to age-appropriate materials and curriculum guidance
- Ongoing support and check-ins from staff and fellow volunteers
