About this Opportunity
Are you looking to make a difference in your community and positively impact people's lives?
Role Summary: We are looking for several volunteers who know how to cut/trim hair of varying textures and lengths. The haircuts/trims would be very simple and basic. This volunteer would be placed in one of our 17 buildings across the Seattle area to host hour-long drop-in hair cutting sessions bi-weekly or once a month. This role is highly impactful for our residents who often struggle to maintain hygiene, cannot afford to go to the barber/stylist, or feel uncomfortable in public barbershops/salons. Having a volunteer meet them where they are at eliminates these barriers and encourages self-care behaviors.
Role Qualifications/Requirements:
- If you do not have licenses/certificates, please instead provide a detailed history of your experience and images of your work. Barber school/beauty school students are highly encouraged to volunteer! We would be happy to count the volunteering towards any hours you may need to get certified.
- A desire to engage with our residents and to align with or learn more about our values of housing first and harm reduction.
- Need to provide your own hair cutting scissors, clippers, other supplies etc.
- Pass a background check.
- Be committed for at least 6 months on a bi-weekly or monthly cadence.
- Have reliable transportation to and from the building.
Skills/Interests
- Caregiving
