Title: New Futures Programs Middle and High School Summer Camp Counselor

Supervisor: New Futures Program Coordinator Grades 7-12

Program Dates: July 10th- August 24th

Locations: Arbor Heights Apartments|Woodridge Park Apartments

New Futures Middle and High School Program: Our High School Program offers teens a safe, supportive environment after school and during school breaks. Our seven-week intensive summer program focuses on sports, STEM subjects, reading, art, field trips and fun!

POSITION SUMMARY: The Middle and High School Summer Camp Counselor will assist the New Futures Program Coordinator administer program activities by helping participants in group and individual settings, setting up and breaking down classroom, and possibly going on field trips. Counselors also will act as mentors and positive role models for the students in the program. It is expected that counselors attend a half day training prior to the first day of camp.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Program Coordinator with program activities
  • Engage and build relationships with high school and middle school students
  • Guide Middle and High school students through academic activities
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator to develop recreational and academic activities for students
  • Assist with program set up, minor food preparation, group management, and program break down
  • Perform related work as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • An open, caring, and non-discriminatory attitude
  • Cultural competency/ Ability to work with diverse youth
  • License for driving/clear driving records a plus
  • Agree to undergo a background check completed by SWYFS
  • Commitment to at least one half day per week during the 7-week summer camp
  • Knowledge of a language other than English beneficial, but not required
