Accompany Seniors on Outings

Do you enjoy spending time with seniors and helping them stay connected to the community?

Lyngblomsten is seeking enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to accompany our residents on special outings. These outings provide valuable opportunities for our seniors to socialize, engage with their community, and enjoy new experiences.

As an Outings Volunteer, you will play a vital role in making these outings safe, enjoyable, and accessible for all our residents. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a direct positive impact on the lives of our seniors.

In this role you will:

• Assist staff with the safe transportation of residents in wheelchairs on our 13-passenger bus (volunteers arenotrequired to drive).
• Accompany residents on outings to various locations such as Target, Walmart, local restaurants, parks, and other community destinations.
• Under the guidance of staff, you may assist residents with getting on and off the bus using the wheelchair lift, ensuring their safety and comfort.
• Provide friendly companionship and support to residents during the outings, engaging in conversation and ensuring their needs are met.
• Help create a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.

Requirements for this role:

• A genuine interest in working with senior adults and a compassionate and patient demeanor.
• Reliability and punctuality.
• Ability to assist with pushing wheelchairs and navigating various environments.
• Must be comfortable being around individuals with varying levels of mobility and potential health conditions.
• Must complete a Dept of Human Services background check (state requirement for working with vulnerable individuals). Orientation is provided.

Time Commitment:

• Outings occur on various days throughout the month, with no set weekly schedule.
• Outings typically take place in the late morning or early afternoon.
• We will contact volunteers in advance with details about upcoming outings, and you can sign up for the dates that fit your availability. This offers a flexible volunteer experience.
