Volunteer ESL/ELL Co-Teacher

Partner with people in your community who are learning English. Meet new people and work with them to build literacy skills and achieve their goals.

Join our community of learners! Literacy Minnesota is seeking volunteer co-teachers and assistants to support an adult English Language program at Hiawatha Collegiate High School, 3500 E. 28th St., Minneapolis, MN.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Comfort working in partnership with one other volunteer co-teacher to lead a class with curriculum and strong direction from a teacher provided.
  • Skilled at connecting with people of diverse races, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
  • Desire to work cooperatively to meet the needs of participants.
  • Teaching experiences helpful but not required.
  • Training in the Foundations of Adult Literacy and the class curriculum is provided by Literacy Minnesota

  • No experience or diploma needed - well provide all necessary training.
  • English speakers of all levels are welcome and encouraged to volunteer.
  • Must be 18 years old to volunteer.
  • Ability to commit to 2-3 hours per week for at least 3 months required.
  • We strongly encourage volunteers who are people of color, indigenous, immigrants and refugees, LGBTQIA2S+ and people with disabilities.
