About this Opportunity

Update: We frequently receive requests for Bereavement Bears (teddy bears made out of a patent's clothing) to give to young children and family members after a patient passes. We are in need of additional sewers to help create these special memory gifts. If you are a gifted sewer, please consider using your talents, time, and creativity to create something that will provide significant comfort for loved ones for many years!

Create a gift of caring for patients receiving end-of-life care using your skills as a Quilter, Seamstress (both machine and hand-stitch), Knitter, Crocheter. These gifts can also provide comfort and caring as a lasting keepsake for their families. Join our Caring Crafters team to make unique gifts of comfort, dignity and beauty for our patients. You will contribute your own designs making each handmade item special.

We provide a list of requested items to our volunteers on needs to help restock our Caring Crafter closet monthly. Common requests are: knitted/crocheted socks, leg warmers, lap blankets, quilts, catheter covers, clothing protectors, activity mats.

We also have needs to fulfill specialty requests including our pillow covers that are given to each of our patients. Michigan college and professional sports teams are common requests - Tigers, Lions, Packers, Red Wings, U of M, MSU etc.

We will send you an information packet with a job description and an application. Guidelines for theprojects you are interested in makingare included. You provide the creativity and labor to brighten our patient and their families day, while letting them know that their community cares about them. Caring Crafters who track the hours spent volunteering are invited to all in-service and recognition events and receive our newsletters.
