About this Opportunity
WFHB Community Radio's news department is searching for a reporter to cover local government meetings in Bloomington, Ellettsville, and Monroe County. In partnership with Community Access Television Services, the reporter will contribute to a script summarizing the weekly meetings, and assist our organization in delivering important government-related content to the public. In this role, you will perform first-hand information gathering through on-site and in-studio investigations, reports, interviews, and Q&As.
To ensure success as a reporter, you should be interested in current events, research, adhering to ethical principles, and maintaining professionalism at all times. Training will be provided and experience of all kinds are welcome.
Responsibilities:
Watch government meetings and discern what is the story
Summarize what the public needs to know
Cover a variety of meetings from the Board of Public Works to Bloomington City Council
Conduct interviews, on the phone or in person (or in Zoom), and select sound bites for air.
Help produce a weekly program, CATS Week, which occurs each Friday.
Package stories, which includes recording voice-over and editing together pieces.
Record interviews to be aired as back and forth pieces.
Skills:
You will learn how to edit audio and record interviews to air on the radio. You will get hands-on experience writing for broadcast and covering local government meetings. You will also learn valuable skills like Wordpress, SEO and broadcast journalism.
