About this Opportunity

The US Army Corps of Engineers, Blackhawk Park is looking for motivated volunteers to help assist in our park maintenance duties.  Blackhawk Park is a 90 acres campground with 150 campsites, along the banks of the Mississippi River Pool 9 near DeSoto WI (25 miles south of La Crosse WI) and generally caters to family and anglers.

General duties of a Campground Maintenance duties:

  • General assistance to the full time Maintenance Worker with a variety of maintenance tasks.

  • Operating a UTV, and possible Govt vehicles.

  • Non-Routine Mowing/Cleaning (Hired contract for the routine Mowing of Park and Cleaning of bathrooms)

  • General painting of signs, tables, structures

  • Fixing fencing, and replacing signage

  • Pressure washing

  • Light Tree trimming/brush removal

  • Flood Cleaning/debris removal

  • Having fun while working safely in accordance to all USACE safety policies

We are looking for a minimum of one month commitment, or as long as applicant are interested. Blackhawk Park is open for April 15-Oct 31st and we are looking for volunteers anytime April-Oct.  We require 20-25hrs per week for a free campsite.  Hours are flexible but typically are scheduled between 8am-4.30pm Monday-Friday.  Volunteers should be in good physical condition and be able to work in a variety of weather conditions including rain, high humidity, and varying temperatures.
