About this Opportunity
A minimum 3 month commitment is preferred with hosts. This announcement is for mid-October to mid-January
General Position Description:
- Extending a warm welcome to park visitors, answering their questions, and listening to their concerns.
- Providing park information, directions and orientation to visitors.
- Checking for compliance with paying the park entrance and camping fees.
- Reminding campers of campground rules such as generator hours, leashing pets, and proper food storage.
- Posting payment and/or regulation reminder forms at campsites when necessary.
- Recording statistics on campground usage.
- Posting signs at bulletin boards.
- Alerting NPS staff of unsafe conditions and equipment that needs repair.
- Relaying fee machine issues to supervisor.
- Attempting to resolve conflicts of non-violent nature such as excessive noise or out-of-bounds camping.
- Recognizing when to call for law enforcement or emergency medical assistance and utilizing radios to do so. Radio training will be provided.
- Displaying the necessary flexibility and good judgemental for adapting to changing conditions and various situations.
- Light maintenance is also required. Examples include repairing signs, cleaning the one communal fire ring, stocking restrooms, raking, picking up and disposing of trash, using hand tools and setting up caution barriers.
Sunset Campground:
This 270 site campground is located in the Furnace Creek area of Death Valley National Park. There is no park staff on site at this first-come, first-serve campground. Hosts are responsible for performing compliance checks two to three times a day plus the other duties mentioned above.
The host sites are full hookups although depending on the energy draw of appliances, hosts may not be able to run multiple appliances at a time (ex: hair dryer and microwave). Hosts will be reimbursed for propane use.
Most cell phone carriers work in the Furnace Creek area but data use can be slow during high periods of visitation. There are some amenities located half a mile from the campground including a few restaurants, small convenience store, gas station, post office, laundry facilities, pool and golf course. WIFI is not provided but hosts can pay for internet access at the private resort located a half mile from the campground. The closest full sized grocery store, pharmacy, and medical services is located 65 miles away in Pahrump, NV.
