About this Opportunity
Duties:
Maintenance volunteers will assist the park’s maintenance staff in a variety of daily activities that help give visitor’s a great experience, such as:
- Various landscape and gardening activities including laying sod, planting, mulching, watering, and pruning
- Cutting and removing brush and digging and filling trenches
- Cleaning and preparing buildings for painting; touch up painting on wood or metal surfaces
- Hauling material with wheelbarrow
- Loading trash and debris into dump trucks and other vehicles
- Spreading sand on ice and shoveling walkways during inclement weather
- Limbing of large trees; small scale tree removal
- Trail rehabilitation and repairs
- Leaf and litter removal from the battlefield
Minimum Commitment:
5 hours a week
Knowledge and Abilities Required:
- Safe use of hand and power tools and ability to operate gas powered equipment
- Ability to perform routine equipment/shop maintenance tasks
- Ability to learn simple, routine tasks relevant to specific trades
- Ability to read and follow instructions and established safety procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time at moderate physical effort
