About this Opportunity
Overview:Assist with trail and parking lot maintenance.
Duties:Routinely visit trailheads and trailsMow and weed-whip trails/parking areasOccasionally paint gates and kiosksRemove graffitiPick up and carry out litterFill brochure boxesMay assist Refuge maintenance staff with light maintenanceInvasive species removal
Qualifications:Ability to work outdoorsGood communication skillsPhysical condition that permits mowing large areas/long trailsPhysical condition that permits hiking on remote and primitive trailsAbility to work independentlyGeneral maintenance knowledge preferred
Training for job:Defensive Driving ? if using government vehicle
Hazards:May hike over uneven terrainIncludes bending and picking up/handling trashMay include being outside for short periods of time in inclement weather (if you get caught outside hiking during)Possible chemical use (Tagster ?for graffiti)Operating machinery (mower)
Personal Protective Equipment (not optional):Gloves when picking up/handling trashEye and ear protection when mowingSafety (steel-toe) boots/shoes when mowing
Note:Position may include other duties as assigned or special events as volunteer wishes. There may be cross over between positions if you would like to participate in other program areas.
