About this Opportunity

TIME REQUIREMENTS: 24-40 hours per week

SUPERVISOR: Park Ranger (Protection)

DUTIES:

Accessions and catalogs museum objects, archives and library items,

Monitors of environmental conditions,

Performs routine housekeeping tasks,

Conducts research using museum and library collections

Prepares or update museum management procedures and plans,

Performs conservation treatment of museum objects, and

Conducts collection inventories.

Volunteers may also be assigned special projects based on their skills and interests including digitizing park photographs and archives, designing temporary museum exhibits, and creating park publications and web pages. In addition, participants will be offered the opportunity to learn and practice visitor service skills including preparation of an interpretive talk using museum objects. We will work with internship candidates to customize your work assignments in order to meet your learning needs.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,

Ability to work independently,

Ability to concentrate on and perform repetitive tasks,

Some knowledge or experience in museum and library fields is desirable but not required,

General knowledge of the Civil War and the Battle of Stones River is desirable,

Ability to use computers.

Housing may be available to interns who commit to at least 32 hours of work per week for a period of at least four weeks.
