About this Opportunity
Boundary Patrol Do you enjoy hiking in beautiful settings and being physically active? This opportunity might just be for you-volunteers are needed to identify and maintain the boundaries of New River Gorge National River. Volunteers are needed to paint blaze trail marking on trees, install marker signs along the boundary lines of New River Gorge and to update project journals. Candidates can expect to hike several miles a day over rough, uneven, terrain. Work will primarily be done with hand tools such as hatchets and hammers.
Must be able to work outside in varying weather conditions. Volunteers will need appropriate personal protective equipment i.e. gloves, eye protection, food and water. Proper footwear, closed toe shoes (boots) must be worn at all times. Physical labor such as lifting, kneeling, bending over, and strenuous hiking can be expected.
This opportunity is great for small groups.
