About this Opportunity
Volunteers working in the Recreation program provide critical seasonal help, such as site care and maintenance, policing, and recreation resource protection. Volunteers participate in area maintenance, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and construction projects in accordance with program management objectives. This includes participating in the implementation of recreation operation and maintenance plans for developed and dispersed recreation sites. Specific projects work may include cleaning and installation of site components (grills, fire rings, trash cans, food boxes, etc) equipment malfunction diagnosis and repair, pruning, painting, litter removal, pressure washing, and graffiti removal.
Work may take place in remote settings. The volunteer may work alone, with Forest Service employees, or other volunteers. Weekend work is generally required and tasks are arduous, and take place in a variety of environments from very hot and dry to wet and cold.
Volunteers often engage in public informational contacts regarding recreational opportunities available and provide critical seasonal and emergency information.
