About this Opportunity
Nordheimer Campground is a small facility with 12 campsites located near the very scenic Salmon River in Siskiyou County, Northern California. There are also 4 reservation-only group campsites at the same location. There is no running water, sewer or electric hookups at the campground, however a generator is available. The campground is fairly flat with grassy open areas and plenty of oak and fir trees for shade. There is a single accessible vault toilet in the campground.
The campground and group sites are very popular with whitewater enthusiasts who come to enjoy the Cal Salmon’s numerous challenging rapids and beautiful canyon scenery. Nordheimer is accessed by the narrow and winding Salmon River Road which is unsuitable for long RV’s.
Length of position is negotiable.
The hosts keep the campground and restrooms clean, greet visitors, answer questions and help manage group site reservations.
A Forest Service radio is provided for emergency communications. Cell phone coverage is not available but regular phone service is available. A small generator will also be provided if needed.
The nearest services are at Forks of Salmon, a very small town about 4 miles away, with gas, propane post office and limited supplies. Somes Bar Outpost, about 13 miles and 20 minutes away, has a post office, deli, propane and groceries. Orleans, about 35 minutes away, has most essential services including medical, gas/propane groceries, ranger station, laundry, computer center and hardware store.
