About this Opportunity
We need your help at the Gauley Ranger District of the Monongahela National Forest to serve as a campground host at Cranberry Campground. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit a truly beautiful area of wild, wonderful West Virginia.
About the area: Cranberry Campground is adjacent to the stocked, prized trout waters of the Cranberry River and the "lower gate" entrance to the Cranberry "Backcountry" and 47,000 acre Cranberry Wilderness Area. Located13 miles from Richwood, WV, the campground is open from April through November. Newly overhauled, Cranberry Campground features 20 single and 4 double sites suitable for trailers and RV's and 2 tent-only sites, 2 hand pumps for water and vault toilets. Summersville, WV is approximately 34 miles from the campground. There are no electrical or water hook-ups.
Campground Host Duties: Duties include: campground cleanup, picking up litter, cleaning toilets, raking sites, and cleaning fire rings and picnic tables. Hosts will represent the Forest Service in public contact, providing information and directions, and report vandalism and other problems to Forest Service personnel. As a Campground Host, you will typically be expected to greet campers; give directions; answer questions; help campers feel at home; perform minor maintenance and inspect the campground; clean and stock restrooms; keep some records; monitor area use; and occasionally fill out forms.
A Host must work well with people, be personable and neat in appearance. You may be required to be on-site six days per week, especially on weekends and heavy use holidays. A Host must generally be physically able to perform some raking, shoveling, mopping and sweeping.
All necessary tools and supplies for service accomplishments will be provided by the Forest Service. Hosts will be provided a campsite for their camper and a reimbursement is available. We can accept hosts that can commit to a time block of at least 4 weeks during the season if not available for whole season.
Recreation Opportunities: Hiking, fishing, wildlife and bird-watching.
