About this Opportunity

This is a position within the division of interpretation and education at the Alaska Public Lands Information Center in Anchorage. We are looking for a volunteer to assist us with making the documents and worksheets we print for our education kits fillable in a digital format, allowing students to work on them from a computer.

Required Background:

  • Proficiency in Adobe and Microsoft suites
  • Background in education preferred

Dates of Service:

As soon as possible.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The volunteer will be given access to the various documents we have organized for each of our education kits. We have several education kits of various topics, with each differing in the number of worksheets and documents used for the lesson.

The volunteer will use Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft, or another software they’re familiar with to convert the PDFs into a fillable/editable format.

If interested and especially if they have a background in education, the volunteer may also assist us with otherwise digitizing our education kits. We would be thankful for any advice or ideas regarding how to make our lessons more accessible and easier to use online. This would require the volunteer to take education kits home and sort through its resources and materials.

Housing, Uniform, and Stipend:

The Alaska Public Lands Information Center does not provide housing. For events and in person outreach (which we are not currently hosting), a volunteer hat, APLIC vest, etc. will be given to the volunteer to wear. Volunteers-in-Parks (VIPs) are unpaid but they may receive several benefits as hours accumulate, such as access to Eppley Institute proValens job development courses or an Interagency National Park pass after 250 hours of service.

To apply, submit the following:

  • A cover letter or formal email stating your reason for interest in the position
  • Resume or CV
  • Email information to Education Specialist Glenn Hart at [email protected]
  • Or mail application to Alaska Public Lands Information Center, 605 W. 4th Ave. Suite 105, Anchorage, Alaska 99501, Attn: Glenn Hart, Education Specialist.
